Verra's Response to The Guardian's Voluntary Carbon Market Critique
Guarding the Trueth Verra's Stand on VCM
In a recent statement addressed to stakeholders in the voluntary carbon market, Verra has expressed its opinions towards The Guardian's reporting on the voluntary carbon market (VCM) and its own role in the market.
Verra claims that The Guardian's reporting has been one-sided and lacking in detail, leading to misconceptions about their nonprofit status and their role in the market. Verra's statement highlights the need for balanced and accurate reporting in this critical area, shedding light on their commitment to transparency and the effectiveness of their Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. They also highlight studies supporting the effectiveness of REDD+ projects and emphasize the importance of voluntary carbon markets in addressing climate change. Verra disputes The Guardian's allegations about the threat to protected forests and asserts that carbon markets are crucial for climate action.
